    Title: ALC 2006

make sure you refresh the ALC main page, the link shuld be off there.

And his intro message is hard to read in time, it is:

ood evening Chernobyl. It\'s lovely to see so many faces glowing with what I hope is pride tonight. I\'d like to say its been a great show, but as my song never made it, clearly it wasn\'t. So without any more ado, here are my votes for the obviously populist but generally inferior songs competing tonight ... :)

  • Yay!! [R] - Geert - 2006-08-06 9:04:28pm
  • hmmm... - Ben NL - 2006-08-06 9:05:46pm

Congrats Jonas, Yair and the one who wrote McCauls :-)))) So far I'm quite satisfied with this top 5!

  • Wow! - Jonas - 2006-08-06 9:06:58pm

    Thanks a lot! :))

    • The first of many 12's I suspect - Congratulations Jonas! [R] - David in Hull - 2006-08-06 9:08:50pm
    • Grattis Jonas! :-))) [R] - Luke - 2006-08-06 9:29:12pm
  • hmmm2... - Yair - 2006-08-06 9:08:17pm

WOW - thanks ade! I admit I may have had your points in mind when I wrote this, but I had no idea it would be that many :))

And Jonas - last year you had to wait for the last jury to get your first 12 - looking better alreay this year. Yay :))

  • Well done Jonas, Timoteus and Yair :) - Jortsu - 2006-08-06 9:14:16pm

BTW, Jonas, I was *sure* "Save the pigs" was Aviad's entry, when I read the semi 3, but after I read the final entries, I knew Aviad's entry was "Rafael", so I was surprised it was you who wrote that one ;)

    • Same here ... "Llama" was Jonas, "Pigs" was Aviad - but I'm more than pleased about Jonas and Pigs! [R] - Thomas ... eh bien, zut alors! - 2006-08-06 9:18:51pm

Woohoo! My very first message on my brand new PC and it's to say thanks Ade, congrats Harrow...

  • Ben made the scoreboard, so BIG BIG THANKS to him too - Harrow - 2006-08-06 9:32:14pm

If you view the php source code you can still read how he had to explain how to use it to me in childlike terms :)

    • lol :-)) [R] - Ben NL - 2006-08-06 9:33:38pm
    • Oh that so isn't going to happen. You lost me at p. But well done to you both. :-))) [R] - Luke - 2006-08-06 9:37:29pm

            • Well, I don't want to be a chore! - Thomas ... eh bien, zut alors! - 2006-08-06 10:40:09pm

I'll be very busy this week anyway - the only evening I'll be around constantly is Tuesday.

That does not mean I won't check whenever I can!

              • After what the Tescos have done for ALC? Tuesday it is, I'll update the schedule! :) [R] - Harrow - 2006-08-06 11:06:13pm
                • Oh hey, Harrow, Harrow ... - Thomas ... eh bien, zut alors! - 2006-08-06 11:14:52pm

"And even though I've said good things about the rest,
There ain't no doubting that Dan Harrow is the best!"

      • Forget it. I just learned how to click on Shedule :)) [R] - Frank - 2006-08-06 10:35:54pm
  • Just noticed the voting schedule - I'm wedged between Thomas and Jeremy, could anything be more perfect? - David in Hull - 2006-08-06 10:33:23pm

      • The front's not bad either! [R] - David in Hull - 2006-08-06 10:35:10pm
        • Let's put it like that ... - Thomas ... eh bien, zut alors! - 2006-08-06 10:38:19pm

... the back does not promise anything the front can't deliver ;)

For doubling my points total!

  • Was Silvia there? [R] - Victor - 2006-08-08 4:39:09am
    • huh????? [R] - javi - 2006-08-08 4:45:58am

        • Oh well, never mind that guy...congrats on making the Final, Richard!!! I hadn't had the chance to tell you! :)) [R] - javi - 2006-08-08 4:59:40am
          • Thanks! If I finish with 30 points, I'll be very happy. - Richard_CT - 2006-08-08 5:02:17am

And I'm already working on next year's entry...

            • Only 30 points? No way!!! :))) - javi - 2006-08-08 5:10:15am

And boy, you really are ahead of schedule for next year! I, as usual, will write whatever I enter in the last two weeks before the headline!!! ( which will of course explain the ultimate outcome, hehe...:)))

              • I still have trouble accepting that "Everything" even made the final... - Richard_CT - 2006-08-08 5:15:18am

... so 30 points will seem like a victory! I honestly though that it wouldn't finish in the top half of the semi!

As for next year, well, I have an idea that no-one's tried yet, but it's going to be tough to make it work. Better to start early!

                • You'd be amazed by how many points I gave it in the semi then! [R] - julie@work - 2006-08-08 12:31:10pm
                  • I can't wait to find out! [R] - Richard_CT - 2006-08-08 1:34:07pm

LOL!! The best ALC-discussion from semi1:

A message from Delia Smith to today's ALC voters on behalf of Tasty Moussaka
Posted by Squint-Eyed Pete D on 2006-08-08 10:00:23am

http://youtube.com/watch?v=O-KizC6wEys

  • Has anyone actually tried Polle's moussaka yet? [R] - suomigirl - 2006-08-08 10:17:18am
    • No, Moussaka goes in my "put any old rubbish in, stir and cook" foodcategory. Me not like :) [R] - Frank - 2006-08-08 1:10:42pm
      • what? no way! ;-) [R] - Antti.be - 2006-08-08 1:40:45pm
  • How do you pronounce Delia btw? - Yair @work - 2006-08-08 10:46:55am

    DEEL-ya? Dé-LEE-a?

    • 3 syllables Dee Lee A (sharp A) [R] - ade - 2006-08-08 10:48:54am
    • Normally Dee Lee A, but DEEL-ya sounds just as good... it's really a regional accent thing. [R] - Nick D. - 2006-08-08 11:05:50am
      • It would be two syllables in Ireland [R] - Keith M - 2006-08-08 11:08:20am
      • Do you mean ...... - julie@work - 2006-08-08 12:00:02pm

... the East Anglian region,. or the East Midlands???

Delia's a Norfolk lass so I think us Anglians can claim her as our own!!!

        • I had no idea who she is when I read the song. I thought Delia is a region in Greece or something [R] - Yair @work - 2006-08-08 12:05:49pm
          • Delia is quite the icon as far as TV cooks and cookery writers goes in the UK . . - Ryan - 2006-08-08 12:33:03pm

. . she's sold something like 16 million cookbooks, she was a noun in the Dictionary and she once had the power that when she promoted an ingredient or piece of equipment in her cookbooks and shows like omelette pans and cranberries, supermarkets and shops would literally sell out in gigantic quantities! She is a national institution! Now she owns a football club or something! :-)

            • www.deliaonline.com tells all [R] - ade - 2006-08-08 12:55:16pm
            • So she's the UK equivalent to Martha then? [R] - Yair @work - 2006-08-08 1:14:50pm
              • Kinda . . . just without the criminal record! :-) [R] - Ryan - 2006-08-08 1:40:50pm
  • LOL!!!! Where Are You? Where Are You? :-) You can tell she likes eurovision... [R] - [PL]TV HoD - 2006-08-08 2:22:45pm

Just a quick note regarding my votes tonight ...

Title: The Tescos "Tesco Dance" - video link

... had a talk with the writer behind "My Grand Prix", Nicole, and she insisted on showing up herself for the voting procedure. She thinks it is only fair as I was merely chosen as a tool to promote her feelings about where eurovision is going.

She also would like you to know that she is not really pleased with the votes she will have to announce, as the majority of entries they will go to cover topics she sees as totally inappropriate for a contest like ALC.

  • She's floating on her sea of madness again ?! :) [R] - Frank - 2006-08-08 1:52:16pm
    • Needless to say, she is shocked and appalled by your entry and considers legal action! [R] - Thomas ... eh bien, zut alors! - 2006-08-08 2:02:40pm

so Jonas, that's why we get alone well, I never eat ham! ;)

and joke aside, Paranoia is just the thing that we Turks are all feeling more or less now in Turkey. with war next door, lots of new war scenarios, lots of conspiracy theories it is really hard sometimes to stay cool in here. and I know it is quite impossible now but I still hope that peace comes to the world sooner than we expect.

cheers everyone, take care :)

  • Thanks for the song support, the peace wish, and most of all - Yair - 2006-08-08 7:38:56pm

Title: The Tescos "Tesco Dance" - video link

... these votes I just had to announce are a disgrace.

Thomas thinks "Moja Generacija" is close to a masterpiece and makes great use of the song. I think it is a downright, disgusting insult to the few remaining good souls helping me to keep My Grand Prix alive!

Thomas told me that "Yay For Free Language" is still funnier than these feeble two points indicate and that the title in combination with the lyrics alone is worth them. What's the point in writing an entry about everday countrylife like I experience in my little village? Ordinary.

Thomas gave "Harrow, Harrow" points even though it got parts which are almost impossible to sing to the original melody? Because ´he can make himself believe it's part of the whole "utterly charming and self-ironic concept". All I can say it is sick to flirt with one's failures. Where have all the professionals gone? Is there noone left but Johnny Logan and me?

And now "Llama". Thomas thinks this is a great piece of lyrical work with masterly use of language even though it leaves him a bit cold emotionally. It's the opposite here - I get truly emotional every time I have to read that perverted, unchristian ejection of a lamentable mind. It was written by a woman? This makes me so sick ...

Same feeling when Thomas told me that the remaining 6 doubtful aberrations of self-declared creativity would all have deserved 12 points!

"Save The Pigs" he tried to sell me as a "weird and wonderful and totally lovable tale of hope and sadness" As tragicomedy at its very best. What's lovable about abusing a lyrical contest for political statements? Some might say I did that, too, but I supported a good cause and not something as hysterical as vegetarian food. And now serve me a schweinebraten! Ahhh, delicious ...

"Hertz" is one of the very few entries in the final I can accept. Believe me, I would have reacted exactly the same way. Whether it is "devastatingly funny and remains so with each listen" is to be discussed, though. And whether that "little movie in your head it creates is priceless", too. I don't find situations like that particularly funny.

I don't want to comment on "A Song On Speed". This is a legal issue and my lawyers told me to hold back. I can't believe that Thomas, the man I choose to spread my message, thinks "it was obviously fishing for his points and that it works some hair's breadths better than "My Grand Prix", especially due to some very creative analogies which get better with each listen. Nicole and drugs and kangaroos with Golden Teeth - a combination he's unable to resist!" Well, see you both in court, buggers.

Personally, I don't think it is appropriate to sing about mental illness in a respected contest. Ami Aspelund did once and see what happened to her! Thomas calls this "another subdued, ingenious masterpiece which works wonders if imagined to be sung like the original. So simple, and at the same time so sophisticated! Potential winner, that's for sure." Oh, sure ... ROFL. Sorry ...

As for the rest, I can't believe that this guy Thomas can be taken in by any cheap trick.

"My Tasty Moussaka" - this is nothing but a recipe that won't even work! My family refused to touch it! And Thomas still moans, "believe me, it was a tough decision to rob this marvellous and lovingly executed gem. It is faultless and he keeps his greasy, greedy fingers crossed that it will go all the way with a little help from all those who cared to actually listen and think twice." Well, I even prepared it on a Sunday when I had run out of ideas, and I'm not too keen on that experience.

So Thomas couldn't help it ... he had to "snap at the fish-hook which might even be aimed at him". And the fact that he thinks it is such a brave attempt and took into account that there is not a chance to win just to take down this rayon de soleil of an idea means that his 12 points go to No. 24 "La vache qui rit, c'est moi". Silly bonehead! He gave 12 to the advertising break! And even call it "simply brilliant from the very first to the very last "Mooooooooo", and most certainly written by Frank!

These two really deserve each other ...

  • LMAO!!! Nicole thank you for your honest opinion. Your presence humbles even Silvia Nott !! [R] - [PL]TV HoD - 2006-08-08 8:14:57pm
