2005 is the second year that, due to increasing numbers of interested countries, the idea of a semi final, the week before the Contest proper, was used.

The Final

• Where? The 2005 Contest will be held at the Palats Sportu in Kiev, Ukraine.
• When? Saturday 21st May, 2005.
• Who? The show was presented by Masha (Maria Efrosinina) and DJ Pasha (Pavo Shylka).
• Winner? Greece won, represented by Helena Paparizou with the song My Number One.

The Semi

Due to the large numbers of countries wishing to enter, a live Semi-Final will be held before the Eurovision Contest itself. In this semi final, 25 countries will compete for 10 places in the final. All 39 countries participating in ESC 2005 are required to vote in the normal style for the songs. The top 10 was announced in random order from special enevelopes, and only after the final were the full results revealed, including the points of the countries missing out (places 11-25). However, the results leaked out before the contest due to the official website uploading the results page too early.
