2007 was the fourth (and final) year that, due to increasing numbers of interested countries, the idea of a semi final, the week before the Contest proper, was used. Although the EBU originally claimed that the maximum limit was set at 40 countries, the preliminary list contained 43 entries. Although Monaco later withdrew, the EBU showed their word doesn't count for much.

The Final

• Where? The 2007 Contest was held at the Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, Finland.
• When? Saturday 12th May, 2007.
• Who? The presenters were Jaana Pelkonen and Mikko Leppilampi.
• Winner? Serbia won, represented by Marija Šerifovič with the song Molitva.

The Semi

Due to the large numbers of countries wishing to enter, a live Semi-Final was held before the Eurovision Contest itself. In this semi final, the remaining 28 countries competed for 10 places in the final. All countries participating in ESC 2007 were required to vote in the normal style for the songs. The top 10 was announced in random order from special enevelopes, and only after the final were the full results be revealed, including the points of the countries missing out (places 11-28).

• Winner? In the order drawn, the 10 qualifiers were: Belarus, Macedonia, Slovenia, Hungary, Georgia, Latvia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Turkey and Moldova.
