2008 is the first year that, due to increasing numbers of interested countries, the idea of 2 semi finals, the week before the Contest proper, will be used. The top 9 scorers with televoting in each semi will qualify, with the 10th qualifier being the highest remaining scorer with the juries.

The Semis

From 2008 , 2 live qualifiers will be held before the Eurovision Contest itself. In these semi finals, all the countries except the 'Big 4' and the hosts, Serbia, will compete for the remaining 20 places in the final. Countries will vote in their own semi, but the 5 finalists will be required to vote in 1 semi, decided by a draw. The top 10s will be announced in random order, the top 9 decided by the televotes, and the final qualifier will be the entry with the next highest score from the jury votes.
