An important question for your party is who to invite? The answer depends on what you view ESC night as. If you are one of those who requires absolute silence during each song so you can properly evaluate each singer's vocals and performance, then the answer is probably no-one - or at least just a few patient and understanding close friends. If however you have realised the true purpose of ESC (i.e. to get drunk and laugh at foreigners), then a good guest list is crucial!

Anyone who is up for a laugh and doesn't expect top-quality music can be invited. An interest in Eurovision helps, but it isn't vital, as the party will be fun whether or not you are stark raving Eurobonkers. A party is also a good way to win over any Euroskeptics you know by showing them how much fun a Eurofest is. The music may not be good, but who can turn their nose up at a piss-up?
Each guest could (should) be assigned a representative country. Unfortunately, due to the recent changes to the Eurovision system there will be some difficulty, as the final lineup will not be known until the Thursday night and that leaves little time for the guests to find a costume and food/drink from their country, meaning that this previously popular party theme is less workable. You could give the songs a listen beforehand and work out about 15 of the finalists that way, with countries like Armenia, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Croatia and Macedonia almost certain to join Serbia, UK, France, Germany and Spain in the Saturday show.

Remember that there will be 25 countries in the final so you may have to get a calculator to work out how best to assign them all to ensure the winner is represented by one of your guests.

Usually it will be fine, and preferable, to hold the Eurovision party in your house, though the room should be large to ensure everyone is comfortable and has enough space to breathe and dance the night away at your party.
Make sure you clear away all your things that have been 'stored' on the floor, and if you still live with your parents, or a boring flatmate, get them out of the house/flat for the night. If you want to go the whole hog, book a function room or hall and get a big screen to watch the festivities as they happen, this will really make the night special. For rooms available to book in the UK check your local Yellow Pages® or www.thevenuelibrary.com. Of course you will need a lot of money to be able to book a room, so don't use your student loan to pay for this, just stick to what you can afford.
