After downloading a file, you should unzip the file, which will leave you with a cdg file and an mp3. To play these files together, you will need a karaoke player. I use Power CD+G Player Pro. You can download a free trial version here, and the software can be registered for a small fee. Double click on the .cdg file and open it with Power CD+G Player Pro. It will then play the mp3 synchronised with the lyrics on screen. If your PC has an s-video connection you can buy a scart to s-video + audio cable to display the lyrics on your tv. If you have a karaoke machine you can burn the songs onto a CD and use them like you would your existing karaoke discs.
We have just purchased software to enable the creation of more cdg files, so hope to be offering many more ESC karaoke songs in advance of Eurovision 2008. Check back soon for offerings from the more recent ESCs, ESC winners, and other popular ESC songs.
Also some rather clever chap has made a lot of karaoke videos and put them on youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=eurovisionandmore&p=r You can save these videos to your hard drive using http://vixy.net and burn them onto a DVD.
Often on soulseek (P2P software you can download at www.slsknet.org) it is possible to find instrumental versions of ESC songs, so using them combined with printed lyrics from diggiloo.net is a good way to provide a greater choice of karaoke songs. Alternatively, you could compile a video of the songs live at Eurovision, so the performers could also copy the dance moves!
Bear in mind that if you invite non-Eurovision fans, the number of songs they know well will be extremely limited. Obviously, the songs known by your guests depend largely on where they are from, for example someone from Sweden is more likely to know Diggi-loo Diggi-ley than a guest from Croatia!
Also you should note that foreign language songs (except English ones) will be harder for people to sing, though you could see this as being more fun, and as you probably will have seen recently, with the success of the siblime Dragostea Din Tei, that everyone can (or thinks they can) sing along with foreign language songs just as loudly and out of tune!
